I'd have to say this is about the least user friendly forum I have come across. I doubt I will spend much time in the intense click here....then click there....then click again, just to see if a reply has been posted on a thread I am interested in. Being able to see activity at first glance is a big issue with me, and that doesn't happen here. Perhaps you have some leeway Wayme with how the forum is set up, but right now, it loses out to other forums that make responses available at a glance. I don't think this is a "resistance to change" issue, and I have yet to decide if a social networking site is what I would be interested in, but if you are going to have a forum as part of that site, I could certainly wish for something a whole lot more intuitive than this one.
THis is so unintuitive, so busy, and borders on "user-hostile". I miss being able to look at the threads at a glance and drill to the one I'm following. If I want to see someone's puppy-pictures, I'll drill down to them, but the interface is so "busy" it's really a put-off.
I personally am not interested in a social-networking format, and I won't be posting pics, inviting friends, or inserting gadgets. I miss the simplicity of a chat-forum.
Maybe Wayne has some control over that, and maybe not. I'm sure he put a lot of effort into the site, but this is probably not something I'll visit very often.
Actually, it's easier to just click on the "Forums" tag at the top of any page rather than use that link.
The posts shown on the front page are kind of like an RSS feed of what the latests posts are... pretty much identical to the way Pinecam does theirs on the front page. You have to click once to get to the actual forum.. the same as Pinecam.
Sorry Wayne, but when you want to go from one thread to another, check replies to different threads it involves so many clicks that I give up im frustration and leave. My time is more valuable than that. Perhaps others will find it worth the time.
Try that Archer - it seems to be ok to navigate once you get use to it. It will be interesting to see what happens if this forum gets more users. It may be hard to tell what you have already read. Now, I know when I last popped in and can click on relies since that time, but as it growns it may be impossible to tell where you have been. I guess time will tell.
That is where I go to start Gringa, I suppose as one gets used to how it is organized it will be better. I belong to a lot of different message boards and just found this style to be less than conducive to a quick check to see if anything new has been posted. I like a "see new posts since last visit" or see last 10 posts, something like that. I will check message boards when I am working on the computer doin other stuff so a quick in and quick view sort of thing is handy. I do need to poke around and find where I can turn off the e-mails that notify me of a reply on a thread....I get enough stuff as it is. If this board ever gets busy It could be a nuisance..
