I have to laugh at all the right-wing hysterics about President Obama using a teleprompter. Every president since Eisenhower has used one. What's funny to me is that
Bush's was phonetic:

When a house fire broke out and spread into the nearby woods, Jefferson County initiated a reverse-911 to more than 40 nearby homes, with a message to evacuate.
The problem was that most of the people in those homes weren't home and had no idea what was going on. Many had pets inside, with no one to rescue them in the evacuation.
Luckily, for the owners of the home that did burn, a Jeffco deputy saw their dogs inside the burning home and kicked in the door to get them out.
The only way many p…

As I write this, I have 750 followers on Twitter. That may sound like a lot but it's not, compared to some tweeple (twitter people) who have 5 or 10 thousand. Still, it's enough for me to have meaningful conversations with -- kind of replacing message boards for me. What it means is when I write something 750 people see it, and the online conversation has the potential of involving any or all of them.
I have to admit, it took me awhile to actually "get" Twitter. I signed up awhile back, tweeted…

Evergreen writer Sandi Fults has published an article on Pinecam.com -- the site that I started in 1994 -- on Associated Content. These are the kind of articles I used to actively pursue while running Pinecam. I was always contacting reporters and newspapers, suggesting they do stories on Pinecam. That was back when I did an informal survey outside the old Safeway on how many shoppers knew what Pinecam was. Only about 30 to 40 percent did. That's why I tried so hard to promote Pinecam and get mo…

Barack Obama is the first president of the Web 2.0 generation -- the first president who embraces digital technology as a way to communicate. His quest to keep his Blackberry has been well chronicled. He's putting all the weekly presidential addresses on the Web (they used to be radio only) and he's even got a Twitter feed going, so you can stay on top of what he's doing (he had one during the campaign, too).
The president's push toward the use of digital technology mirrors the public's move. T…

Since SOME PEOPLE seem to still think I'm JAG over at 285Freetalk (listening, Gringa?), I thought I'd shed some light on his true identity.
The person posting as JAG on both the now-defunct 285Chat forum and who registered here on 285Chat used the same email. It's one of those free email accounts that starts with "cicwdc." I have no idea of what that stands for, but I'm sure it wasn't picked at randon. A Google search of the email shows it is connected to a poster on softball forums who goes by…

I first came across a poster known as JAG on Club285. He didn't post much -- "Bullshit!" mostly, with an avatar of a guy giving the finger. His initials were thought to be the shortened version of "Just Another Guy."
When I started the forum on 285Chat, he migrated here and continued to post the same thing over and over. I spent a number of months trying to figure out who he really was. My money was on the the owner of Club285, since he was also posting the same sort of stuff under another moni…

I resisted getting involved in Skype because I didn't have a Web cam (imagine, me not having a Web cam -- the original Pinecamguy). Skype, in case you don't know, is an Internet communcation device that lets you chat with the other 8 million Skype users worldwide by typing, voice or voice and live picture.
Anyway, I got a new laptop with a built-in Web cam and so I went ahead sign downloaded Skype (it's free) and logged on. Before long, I was chatting with a guy my age in Australia (we talked f…

A comment on TV from a weathercaster about the snow and the fact that, "It's not even Winter yet!" reminded me of a pet peeve.
Why do meteorologists, news people, radio people and people who should know better refer to Dec. 22 as the official start of Winter? I know it's on the calendar that way, but they ought to know there are TWO benchmarks for Winter starting: the celestial start and the start as measured by the climate.
The celestial start IS Dec. 22. But really it's the Winter Solstice,…

SUFFER in your jocks, bikers. Yes, that means you, you wussy Hell's Angel. And you, Bandido boy. The secret's out. You aren't just overweight, smelly, middle-aged drug dealers with more tattoos than teeth. You are soft in the pants department - and quite probably bedwetters, as well.
And guess what? These afflictions are caused by riding motorcycles.
That's right, a new study has found that men who ride them risk impotence and urinary problems because the engine vibration damages nerves in the…

Robert Shiller, professor of finance at Yale University and chief economist for MacroMarkets LLC, tracks what he calls the "Graham P/E," a measure of market valuation he adapted from an observation Graham made many years ago. The Graham P/E divides the price of major U.S. stocks by their net earnings averaged over the past 10 years, adjusted for inflation. After this week's bloodbath, the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index is priced at 15 times earnings by the Graham-Shiller measure. That is…

Washington Post
In a break with recent campaign ad tradition, Obama's campaign said it has purchased a half-hour of airtime on CBS and NBC for a primetime political infomercial on Oct. 29. Obama's campaign is also reportedly looking to make similar half-hour buys on other broadcast networks.
The network buys -- which could cost the Obama campaign around $2 million each -- demonstrate Obama's massive fundraising advantage over his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain. Obama has been outspe…

The Statement
Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said at the Oct. 7 presidential debate in Nashville, Tennessee, that when Republican opponent Sen. John McCain "was cheerleading the president to go into Iraq, he suggested it was going to be quick and easy, we'd be greeted as liberators."
Get the facts!
The Facts
McCain repeatedly made comments like the ones Obama describes during the run-up to the March 20, 2003, invasion and in the days after.
On CNN's Larry King Live on Sept. 24, 20…

Colorado Could Be The Deciding State
NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd estimated on “Meet the Press” that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is just one state away from solidifying the 270 electoral votes he needs to win the White House.
Colorado, Virginia or Florida would put it away for Obama if the election were held today, Todd said.
The latest NBC News estimate gives Obama 264 votes and McCain about 175.
“Right now, Obama, one state away,” Todd said. “Even if it’s Nevada [making the…

Noor was posting something about the military being called home to lock up American citizens and, after two pages, the thread was locked, with no explanation. Instead of just explaining what TOS the thread violated, moderator Dieselpop posted:
"This thread is locked. Think about it Noor."
That's like sending your misbehaving kid to his room without explanation, other than to say, "I don't have to tell you what why. You just go up there and think about what you did."
If moderators would explai…

I dropped in over at
www.285freetalk.com to see how it was doing and there was a post, with no replies, by Manna Pro, about how he "can't keep up with the posts on 285freetalk," because the board is "exploding."
"I don't ever remember that happening at Waynes SuperChat, Club285, or Kathi's Divorce board.. This is gonna be big."
I remember him posting pretty much the same observation on SuperChat, and on Club285 before he got kicked off there.
So far, t…
